What's new with this Substack?
Hi hankycode Readers,
Whether you’ve been here since this publication was called ‘The Rot Spot’ or if you’re a newer reader, I am so immensely grateful for each and every one of you for reading, commenting, sharing, and supporting.
As of today, this Substack is changing a bit, and I wanted to be completely candid, so that you’re all aware of what to expect going forward. Starting today, hankycode’s Substack will focus exclusively on my essays on queer history and related research. This means that the first three Saturdays of the month you can expect an article to come out doing a deep dive into LGBTQ+ history, LGBTQ+ history book/film recommendations and analysis, and more. The last Saturday of the month will be a newsletter, and for our new paid subscriber option an additional history article.
Additionally, we recently launched a new page on this Substack with details on my LGBTQ+ history workshops, so feel free to check that out as well.
As many of you know, for a time, this Substack also published various guest pieces and broader LGBTQ+ arts and culture reporting. That content and reporting aren’t going away. We now have a full-fledged website designed specifically for our needs as a larger publication. To streamline things and keep everything as organized as possible, all guest pieces, LGBTQ+ artist features, culture reporting, and history pieces (mine and others) will run on the larger website. This newsletter will be solely focused on serving as an archive of my writings on queer history and research.
That said, we are not removing the archive from Substack, so any old essays, features, etc., will still be accessible to all readers. I highly recommend checking out our full website and following our Instagram, where we post about every new article. Lastly, as many of you know, at the end of the month on this Substack, I share a newsletter that, in addition to LGBTQ+ history, shares what I have been thinking about, listening to, reading, creating, etc. It will also include links to all the articles published on our main site throughout the month.
Thanks to all for reading and supporting both this Substack and our companion news website. Our hope is that this shift will clarify things for everyone and make it easier for new readers interested specifically in queer history to find and follow this work.
Lots of love,
Rebecca
